Music and sound design for documentaries
I’ve collaborated with the Los Angeles Times on several documentary projects over the last several years. Several of these projects are highlighted below.
Product of Mexico
Product of Mexico (2014) is a multi-part series that documents the exploitation and harsh conditions faced by laborers at Mexico’s mega-farms which are main suppliers of produce to American consumers. It was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in 2015. I composed the original music for the video documentary.
Broken
Broken (2015) is a short documentary portraying the lives and circumstances of the people of San Bernardino, a city devastated by the financial crisis in 2007 and the poorest city of its size in California.
Healing Sgt. Warren
Healing Sgt. Warren (2013) tells the story of Jonathan Warren, a veteran of the war in Iraq. This documentary documents Warren as he returns home from Iraq adjusting to a new life stateside while simultaneously trying to deal with the traumatic memories and feelings he brought home with him from a brutal war in the Middle East.
A Soldier’s Wife
A Soldier's Wife (2013) tells the story of Tom, a veteran struggling with PTSD and alcoholism, and his loving wife Candace, as they try to grapple with the realities of war, and the impact it has on their relationship and their family .
Songwriting and production
I’ve written, recorded, and produced dozens of songs for other recording artists since 2007. I’ve also released my own music. Below are two singles written and recorded in San Francisco between 2018 and 2019. Artwork by Simon Davies.
